Gulf War 1991
Prior to going over the breach we received a briefing from an American and British Officer on the tactical situation for us. We were all stood around in a half circle looking down at the sand, this was because they had no map or board to put it on, so they improvised with the dessert floor instead.
To do this they decided to use tins of food from our rations packs, so for example a tin of rice would represent our Regiment, and a tin of sausages represented brigade headquarters and so on.
I was at the back with the other senior ranks and just in front of us was Dick Gardner the survey Sargent. Dick lent back and with his hand shielding his mouth from the officers and he whispered to us "we best watch out for the BRG" I asked him what was the BRG and Dick replied "the bean re-enforcement group", well to say we pissed ourselves would be an understatement made even more difficult by the fact that we tried not to show it.
